“Visual Analytics” as Misnomer? The disparity between the name and the essence of visual analytics

Visual Analytics is “the science of analytical reasoning facilitated by interactive visual interfaces” (Thomas & Cook, 2005). It is an analytical process that combines the human’s visual intelligence with interactive technology to get relevant information out of data.

There are two notable aspects in Visual Analytics that are not readily apparent by just glancing at the name “Visual Analytics” which I will address here — the human and interactivity.
